South Carolina was the area which had witnessed more wars than any other region of the nation. South Carolina declared its independence from English in 1776. It gradually became the commercially import port and as a consequence the nearby area also began to develop.

During the beginning of eighteenth century, producing rice was one of the most profitable business and millions of pounds of rice was exported during that time. The region was further divided into the provinces of South Carolina and North Carolina. But in 1670, British settled down near Charleston and named the area as Carolina after the name of the England's King Charles II. The French and Spanish tried hard to establish permanent settlement in the region but they failed to do so.

The Native Americans were the first settlers of the area and were the ancestors of Catawba, Cherokee and Yamasee tribes. This city is situated in the counties of Dorchester and Charleston. North Charleston is one of the most sought after tourist destinations in the world and about 4 million visitors reach here every year making it one of the greatest destinations.
